Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below. Problem
The Caterpillar Leicester facility is shipping the Compact Wheel Loader machines with #2 diesel. The cloud point of #2 diesel is −12° C (10° F).When ambient temperatures are below the cloud point, the engine may starve of fuel due to the waxes plugging the fuel filters. This waxing can cause hard starting, low power, stalling under load, and low-power complaints.Solution
For new machines that arrive at dealerships, draining the fuel tank and replacing the fuel filters is recommended. For the 910K and 914K replace both the 363-5819 Water Separator and Fuel Filter As and the 445-8280 Fuel Filter As . For the 906H2, 907H2, and 908H2 replace the 361-9555 Water Separator and Fuel Filter Element .If the machine is experiencing one of the above issues and has less than 60 hours, draining the fuel tank and changing the fuel filters is recommended. If the machine has more 60 hours, the original fuel filled by the plant should not be in the tank. In this case, obtaining a fuel sample to check cloud point and pour point of the diesel fuel is recommended. If the cloud point is not low enough, there is a problem with the diesel fuel provided by the local distributor. If the local fuel distributor is unable to provide diesel fuel that is blended appropriately, 269-1949 Anti-Gel can be used to prevent fuel gelling. The Caterpillar Leicester facility is in process of adding #1 Diesel Fuel as a cold-weather option. However, this fuel will not be available until after the 2014/2015 winter.
