Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not under fill or overfill engine crankcase with oil. Either condition can cause engine damage.
Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hood Tilt" for the access to the engine.Park the machine on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.Note: Drain the crankcase while the oil is warm. Waste particles that are suspended in the oil will drain along with the oil. As the oil cools, the waste particles will settle to the bottom of the crankcase. The particles will not be removed by draining the oil and the particles will recirculate in the engine lubrication system with the new oil.
Open the engine hood to the fully open position.
Remove the left side engine panel.

The drain valve is on the left side of the oil pan. The drain valve can also be accessed from beneath the tractor. Open the oil drain valve and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Close the drain valve.

Apply a thin coat of oil to the seal on the new engine oil filter. Install a new engine oil filter hand tight until the seal of the engine oil filter contacts the base. Note the position of the index marks on the filter in relation to a fixed point on the filter base.Note: There are rotation index marks on the engine oil filter that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 or a turn away from each other. When you tighten the engine oil filter, use the rotation
