ACTION REQUIRED
If a failure of one of the HEUI Pump Drive Groupcomponents occurs (i.e., Thrust Plate, Drive Gear, Bearing, or Mount Looseningw/possible surface damage), the repair under this Service Letter permitsthe update of the Pump Drive Group system. This includes replacement ofany of the Drive Group components listed above in Parts Needed (shown inattached Illustrations 1 and 2), to upgrade this system to the improveddesign.
If you have a 1249669 or 1620159 pump drive housing,you will need to drill and tap the two bolt holes deeper as shown in illustration3, to permit use of the longer 0312701 thrust plate retaining bolts. Thelater 1806768 housing has the proper hole depth for these bolts.
The 9S8752 nut for the front housing stud (locatedbehind pump drive gear) should be replaced with a 2K4973 self-locking nutduring the repair process.
Inspect the Drive Group Mounting Surface on thecylinder block to ensure that the surface is flat within 0.13 mm (.005inch). If found to be out of specification use appropriate method to shimand/or recondition the mounting surface.
The proper torque procedure, as shown in Illustration2, must be followed during the Drive Group mount reassembly.
