C     6V-3966     Fitting As     1    This test will determine the following conditions:
The test will measure the performance of the scraper engine.
The test will determine if the retarder and the torque converter lockup clutch are engaging correctly.
The test will determine if the scraper retarder and torque converter lockup clutch pressures are correct.Procedure

Transmission Lubrication Relief Valve (1) Pressure tap for the transmission lube
Make sure that the air pressure is at the correct system pressure.
Remove the plug from pressure tap (1). Install Tool (B) into pressure tap (1). Attach Tool (C) to Tool (B) .
Connect Tool (A) to Tool (C) .
Activate the parking brake.
Start the engines and run the engines at LOW IDLE rpm in the NEUTRAL position. The pressure on the digital indicator must be a minimum of 5.0 kPa (0.73 psi).
Slowly increase the scraper engine to HIGH IDLE rpm. The pressure on the digital indicator must read 85 20 kPa (12 3 psi). Make sure that the retarder is turned off. The retarder control lever must be all the way away from the operator.
With the scraper engine at HIGH IDLE rpm, turn on the retarder. Move the retarder control lever all the way toward the operator. The pressure on the digital indicator must not be more than the pressure that is found in Step 6. Also, the pressure on the digital indicator must not be less than 35 kPa (5 psi) under the pressure that is found in Step 6.Note: Be sure that the torque converter oil does not become too hot. Overheating of the scraper engine may occur.
Turn off the retarder. Move the retarder control lever all the way away from the operator. The pressure on the digital indicator must be equal to the pressure on the digital indicator in Step 6.
Turn off the engine.
Remove the test equipment.ResultsIf the retarder is disengaged and the oil pressure is too low, the following problems may have occurred:
There may be an excessive restriction in the transmission oil cooler. Perform the test for the Torque Converter Outlet Pressure. If the retarder is engaged and the oil pressure decreases too much, the following problems may have occurred:
There is too much leakage in the retarder. There may be bad seals or bad gaskets in the retarder. If the oil pressure that is measured in Step 6 is not identical to the oil pressure in Step 8, the following problems may have occurred:
There is wear or damage to the retarder hydraulic control valve.
