Information:
Brake Pedal
Press the brake pedal down to slow or stop the machine.Release the pedal to release the brake.Gearshift Lever
This lever controls the speed and direction of the transmission. The machine has five forward gears and two reverse.Always stop the machine before changing direction.Parking Brake Control
Do not engage the parking brake control while the machine is moving unless an emergency exists. Use of the parking brake control to stop the machine will cause damage to the transmission mounted parking brake. If the parking brake control is used to stop the machine the transmission mounted parking brake must be disassembled and inspected.
Parking Brake Engaged - Pull the control out to engage the parking brake. Parking Brake Disengaged - Push the control in to disengage the parking brake. The parking brake engages automatically if the disconnect switch is turned OFF with the parking brake control in the disengaged position. When the disconnect switch is turned on again, the parking brake will automatically disengage if the control is still in the disengaged position. The parking brake control must always be in the ENGAGED position before the disconnect switch is turned OFF.Retarder Control
The retarder control activates the retarder and controls the amount of retardation applied. The purpose of the retarder is to slow the machine without the need for continuous application of the service brakes. This reduces brake wear and overheating. Retarder Engaged - Pull the control progressively DOWN to engage the retarder. Increasing downward movement of the control increases the amount of retardation applied. Retarder Disengaged - Push the control fully UP to disengage the retarder.Do not change gear while the retarder is engaged.Check the transmission/retarder oil temperature gauge and indicator while the retarder is engaged. If the transmission oil overheats during retarder operation, use a lower gear next time the machine is driven down the same grade. The retarder operates in any gear. The most effective gear depends on grade and the loaded state of the machine.Steering Controls
Steering of the machine is controlled by the steering wheel. The machine will turn in the same direction as the steering wheel is turned. The steering frame locks must be removed before the machine can be steered. Left Turn - Turn the steering wheel in a counterclockwise direction to steer the machine to the left. Turn the steering wheel clockwise to straighten the machine. Right Turn - Turn the steering wheel in a clockwise direction to steer the machine to the right. Turn the steering wheel counterclockwise to straighten the machine.Turn the steering wheel slowly to make a slow turn. Turn the steering wheel faster to make a sharp turn. There is a speed of rotation at which the steering response is at its maximum. If the steering wheel is turned faster, the steering feels "heavy". This is a characteristic of the system and does not indicate a fault.Supplemental Steering
Supplemental steering functions if the machine steering fails. It must only be used to steer the machine to a location where it can be stopped.Supplemental steering functions
