start by: a) remove radiator coreb) remove hydraulic oil coolerc) remove timing gear coverd) remove valve lifters 1. Remove bolt and washer that hold gear (1) in position. Use tooling (A) to remove gear (1). 1. Remove four bolts (2), plate (3) and idler gear (4). Remove the bearing from the idler gear (4) with tooling (C). 3. Remove two bolts (5) and the retainer that hold camshaft to the cylinder block.4. Carefully remove the camshaft and gear (6) from the cylinder block as a unit. 5. Use tooling (B) to remove the gear from the camshaft.Install Timing Gears And Camshaft
1. Heat camshaft gear (1) to a maximum temperature of 500°F (260°C).2. Put the key in the camshaft in alignment with the groove (keyway) in gear (1). Install gear (1) on the camshaft. 3. Use tooling (A) to install the bearing in the idler gear (2).4. Put clean engine oil on the lobes and journals of the camshaft.5. Carefully install the camshaft in cylinder block.6. Install the retainer that holds the camshaft in the cylinder block.7. Install idler gear, plate and bolts. Install idler gear so the "V" mark (4) on idler gear is in alignment with "V" mark on crankshaft gear. The "K" marks (3) of camshaft gear can be seen at outer edges of idler gear. 8. Put water pump gear (5) in position. Install the washer and bolt that hold it. It will be necessary to check the timing of automatic timing advance.
