Before assembly of components, make sure bearing cups and cones are seated in the housing A piece of 0.038 mm (.0015 in) shim stock or a standard feeler gauge should not go between the cup or cone and its respective seat.1. Assemble gear (1), bearing cage (3) and bearings. Tighten all bearing cage bolts (2) evenly.2. Position housing in a vertical position. Rotate gear back and forth several times to seat bearings.3. Measure gap (4) between housing and bearing cage.4. Added shims as required to obtain 0.15 0.05 mm (.006 .002 in) bearing end play.5. Measure end play at gear (1).6. If bearing end play is less than 0.10 mm (.004 in) add shims. If end play is greater than 0.20 mm (.008 in) remove shims.
