In order to check the date code on each of the spindle flanges, elevate the machine and remove all four tires and rims. For information on removing the tires and rims, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR4808, "236, 246, 252, and 262 Skid Steer Loaders Power Train", "Tire and Rim - Remove and Install".After the tires and rims have been removed, check the date code on each of the spindle flanges.For all spindles that have a date code inclusively between the range of 1131 to 1800, these spindles may not achieve acceptable field service life. Spindles with codes outside this range are expected to provide full service life. When reinstalling the tires, refer to Operation and Maintenance, SEBU7468, "216, 226, 228, 236, 246, 248, 252, and 262 Skid Steer Loaders", "Maintenance Section", "Wheel Nuts-Tighten" for proper torque values.CORRECTIVE ACTION:Skid Steer Loaders assembled with the 142-9024 Spindles that have date codes outsidethe listed range should be considered first for customer sale. Skid Steer Loaders assembled with the 142-9024 Spindles that have date codes within the listed range must not be run with "over the tire" tracks. For machines that have been run with "over the tire" tracks, the axle groups must be replaced as soon as possible. For those machines, contact Jay Ripp of the SSL Product Support Group at 919-777-2392 for further information. A Product Improvement Program (PIP) will be released when the Parts Distribution System has procured a sufficient number of conforming parts. The current estimate is August 18, 2001. The spindles most recently manufactured will have an additional marking next to the date code. See Illustration 2.
