Information:
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects a low coolant level for 30 seconds.System Response:The ECM logs the event code.Note: This event will be deactivated if the coolant level is detected for 2 seconds.Possible Performance Effect:E057-2 (Derate)
The engine power is derated.Troubleshooting:
The coolant level is most likely low.
There may be a problem with the coolant level sensor.Test Step 1. Check the Coolant Level
Pressurized System: Hot coolant can cause serious burns. To open the cooling system filler cap, stop the engine and wait until the cooling system components are cool. Loosen the cooling system pressure cap slowly in order to relieve the pressure.
Stop the engine.
After allowing the engine to cool, check the coolant level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the proper procedure. Note: The probe of the coolant level sensor must be completely immersed in coolant.Expected Result:The coolant is at the proper level. Results:
OK - The coolant level is OK.Repair: There may be an intermittent electrical problem in the sensor circuit. Return the engine to service. Monitor the engine during operation. Ensure that the problem does not recur.STOP
Not OK - The coolant is not at the proper level.Repair: Fill the radiator with coolant to the proper level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for information that is related to coolant specifications.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Coolant Level Sensor
Check the operation of the coolant level sensor. Refer to the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Coolant Level Sensor Circuit - Test" for the proper procedure. Expected Result:The coolant level sensor is operating correctly. Results:
OK - The coolant level sensor is operating correctly at this time.Repair: There may be an intermittent electrical problem in the sensor circuit. Return the engine to service. Monitor the engine during operation. Ensure that the problem does not recur.STOP
Not OK - A problem has been found with the coolant level sensor or with the circuit for the coolant level sensor.Repair: Repair the problem.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem.STOP
