Component Code 7251SUBJECT: ADJUSTMENT FOR THE ENGINE HOOD ON BACKHOE LOADERS
PROBLEM:
Adjustments need to be made to the 221-0973 Latch (1) so there is minimal movement of the hood. The latch should not be adjusted so tight that you must push down on the hood in order to turn the key. This may put the lock out of alignment. The hood should not be adjusted so loose that the hood has too much vertical movement.
SOLUTION:
A new method of adjustment is now in use in production. The new method of adjustment became effective in production with the following machines: CJZ288-Up, RXA2071-Up, BXC1841-Up, DSX813-Up, MBM296-Up, TDR535-Up, SMJ472-Up, and TBD324-Up.
There should be minimal vertical movement of the hinged part of the hood when the hood is locked. The key must be easily inserted and removed without any hand pressure on the hood. If there is more than 2 mm (0.08 in) of vertical movement or the key cannot be easily inserted and removed, perform the following adjustment.
Fully open the hood.
Loosen the two screws (2) that hold the latch (1).
Move the latch plate upward or downward as needed. Then, tighten the two screws (2).
Lower the hood and lock the hood. The hood should have no more than 2 mm (0.08 in) of vertical movement. The key should be easily inserted and removed without any hand pressure on the hood.
Repeat the procedure until the hood is within the specifications.
