CONTROL GP-WASHER & WIPER 1454446 - Caterpillar

start by:a) remove engine and torque dividerb) remove crankshaft rear sealc) remove flywheel housing 1. Turn crankshaft until holes (4) in gears are in alignment with nuts (5) or bolts that hold thrust washer to timing gear plate. Turn the crankshaft more than one time if necessary to remove all of the nuts and bolts from thrust washers. Do not remove any of the gears at this time.2. Turn the crankshaft toptop center of compression stroke for No. 1 piston. See LOCATING TOP CENTER FOR NO. 1 PISTON in TESTING AND ADJUSTING.3. Install a 3/8"-16 NC eyebolt in drive shaft (3) and remove it from camshaft drive gear.
Do not turn crankshaft after drive shaft (3) or any of the gears are removed. If the crankshaft is turned it can cause damage to the pistons and valves.
4. Remove camshaft drive gear (1) and thrust washer (2). 5. Remove idler gear (7) and thrust washer (6). 6. Remove pump drive gear (8) and thrust washer.7. Remove cluster gear (9) and thrust washer. 8. Remove idler gear (11) and thrust washer (10).9. Remove power take-off gear (12) and thrust washer.10. Remove the bearing from idler gear (7) with tooling (A) and a press.11. Remove the bearing from pump drive gear (8) with tooling (B) and a press.12. Remove the bearing from cluster gear (9) with tooling (C) and a press.Install Timing Gears
1. Install bearing in idler gear with tooling (A) and a press.2. Install bearing in pump drive gear with tooling (B) and a press.3. Install bearing in cluster gear with tooling (C) and a press.4. Check position of No. 1 piston, it must be at top center of compression stroke.
If crankshaft must be turned, it will be necessary to remove the bolts from the bearing blocks for the camshaft, to permit all valves to go to the closed position.
5. Put clean engine oil on all bearings and shafts before installation of gears. 6. Install power take-off gear (1), thrust washer and bolts.7. Install idler gear (2), thrust washer and bolts. 8. Install cluster gear (4) with "V" mark on gear in alignment with "V" mark on crankshaft gear. Install thrust washer and bolts.9. Install pump drive gear (3) with "V" mark on gear in alignment with "V" mark on cluster gear. Install thrust washer and bolts. 10. Install idler gear (8) with "V" mark on gear in alignment with "V" mark on pump drive gear. Install thrust washer and nuts.11. Install thrust washers (7) on camshaft drive gear (5). Install camshaft drive gear with "V" mark on gear in alignment with "V" mark on idler gear. 12. Install drive shaft (6) in camshaft and camshaft drive gear.
