Transmission Charge Filter
Torque Converter Charge FilterThe transmission charge pump sends oil to the transmission charge filter. The torque converter charging pump section sends oil to the torque converter charge filter.Oil from the transmission charge pump enters filter base (11) at inlet (9). The oil goes through the filter base to filter housing (7). Oil fills the space between the inside of filter housing (7) and filter element (1). Normally, oil goes through the filter element and the oil leaves the filter base through outlet (8). Filter element (1) prevents debris from going to the transmission hydraulic control.If the filter element becomes full of debris, the restriction to the flow of oil causes a pressure increase. The increase in pressure causes bypass valve (3) to open against spring (4). Then, the oil will flow directly from inlet (9) to outlet (8). The bypass switch sends a signal to the power train ECM. If the power train oil temperature is greater than or equal to 52 °C (126 °F) the power train ECM alerts the operator that the filter element is plugged. Caterpillar Advisor monitors the power train ECM. Caterpillar Advisor then generates a warning on the screen.Note: The filter bypass condition can be monitored through Caterpillar Advisor.Oil from the torque converter charging pump section enters filter base (11) at inlet (14). The oil goes through the filter base to filter housing (15). Oil fills the space between the inside of filter housing (15) and filter element (2). Normally, oil goes through the filter element and the oil leaves the filter base through outlet (13). Filter element (2) prevents debris from going to the torque converter.If the filter element becomes full of debris, the restriction to the flow of oil causes a pressure increase. The increase in pressure causes bypass valve (5) to open against spring (6). Then, the oil will flow directly from inlet (14) to outlet (13). The bypass switch sends a signal to the power train ECM. If the power train oil is greater than or equal to 52 °C (126 °F) the power train ECM alerts the operator that the filter element is plugged. Caterpillar Advisor monitors the power train ECM.
