(1) Bypass Contactor Capacitor (2) "K3" ContactorThe "K3" Bypass contactor (2) is located on the right panel of the Bypass cabinet. Refer to Illustration 1.On the right panel below the "K3" Bypass contactor, there is a capacitor (1). The capacitor (1) is used to help keep the contactor (2) charged when you use the Bypass switch.Removal Procedure
When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:Make sure the unit is off-line (disconnected from utility and/or other generators power service), and either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE. Remove all fuses.
Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR9988, "Internal Component Preremoval Steps (SMS Bypass Cabinet)" in order to shut down the system and gain access to internal components.
Unlock the door and open the door.Open the door of the cabinet by using a hex key on the latches on the right side of the door.
Remove the lower metal safety shield.
Verify the labeling of the wires for subsequent installation.
Disconnect the wires from the "K3" contactor (2) .
Remove the three cables with buswork from the bottom of the contactor (2) .
Remove the three cables that attach to the top of the contactor (2) .
Remove the four bolts that hold the contactor (2) to the left panel.Installation Procedure
Place the contactor (2) in the cabinet.
Install the four bolts.
Attach the three cables that connect the top of the contactor (2) .
Attach the three cables with buswork to the bottom of the contactor (2) .

Attach the wires to the contactor (2). Refer to Illustration 2 for wire connections.
