Separate the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate" for the machine that is being serviced.
Remove the axles. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
Remove the sprocket segment. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Sprocket Segment - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the oil from the housing for the transmission and bevel gear.

Turn the final drive until plug (2) is on the bottom. Drain the oil from the final drive housing.
Remove two bolts (1) from the top of the final drive.

Adjust bracket (3) until the bracket is against the stop on Tooling (A) .

Fasten a hoist and Tooling (A) to final drive (4), as shown.

Note: Do not remove bolts (6) that hold the steering clutch and brake to the final drive.
Remove bolts (5) and (7). Remove the final drive and the steering clutch as an assembly. The approximate weight of the final drive and steering clutch and brake is 381 kg (840 lb).

Remove O-ring seals (8) and (9) from the housing for the steering clutch and brake.
