Before doing any service work which requires separating track, a through inspection of the front track roller frame must be made. See Special Instruction, Form No. SMHS8273-02
Start By:a. separation of trackb. remove pipelayer support towers 1. Use Tooling (A) to lift the front and rear of the tractor, and install Tooling (B). There will be a loss of oil when retainer (1) is removed.2. Remove the bolts and retainer (1) from the roller frame. 3. Remove O-ring seal (2) from retainer (1). 4. Fasten a hoist to track roller frame (3) as shown. 5. It may be necessary to use the hoist to raise or lower the track roller frame until pin assembly (4) can be removed.6. Remove bolt (5). Remove pin assembly (4) from the track roller frame. 7. Remove three bolts (6) and plate (7) that holds the track roller frame in position on the pivot shaft.8. Use the hoist, and remove the track roller frame from the machine. The weight of the track roller frame is approximately 930 kg (2050 lb). 9. If necessary, remove bearings (8) from the track roller frame. 10. Remove seal (10) from pivot shaft (9).Install Track Roller Frames
1. Install seal (2) on pivot shaft (1). Install the seal with the larger diameter toward the outside of the machine. 2. If the bearings were removed from the track roller frame, lower the temperature of the bearings.3. Use Tooling (A) to install the inside bearing (3) until it is seated in the track roller frame. The inside diameter must be 88.744 0.084 mm (3.4939 .0033 in) after installation.4. Use Tooling (B) to install the outside bearing (4) until it is seated in the track roller frame. The inside diameter of the bearing must be 69.856 0.134 mm (2.7502 .0053 in). 5. Fasten a hoist to track roller frame (6) as shown. Put the track roller frame in position on the pivot shaft. Install retainer (5) and the bolts to hold the track roller frame in place on the pivot shaft. 6. Align the track roller frame with the hard bar, and install pin assembly (7).7. Install bolt (8) to hold pin assembly (7) in position. 8. Install O-ring seal (10) on retainer (9). Put clean oil on the O-ring seal. 9. Install retainer (9) on the track roller frame. 10. Use Tooling (C) to lift the machine from Tooling (D). Remove Tooling (D), and lower the machine to the ground.11. Fill the pivot shaft compartment with oil to the correct level.
