Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the front housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Remove".
Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.Spring force will be released when covers are removed.Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
Remove bolts (1) and cover (2) from the front of the cylinder block.
Remove plunger assembly (3) and spring (4) from the cylinder block.

Remove bolts (9) and thrust plate (10). Remove cluster idler gear (11) from the rear of the cylinder block.
Remove bolts (5), idler shaft (6), camshaft idler gear (7), and thrust washer (8).

Remove bolts (12) and cover (13) from the rear of the cylinder block.
Remove plunger assembly (14) and spring (15) from the cylinder block. Installation Procedure

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Apply clean engine oil on spring (15) and plunger assembly (14).
Install spring (15) and plunger assembly (14) in the cylinder block.
Install cover (13) and bolts (12).

Apply clean engine oil to the sleeve bearing in camshaft idler gear (7) and idler shaft (6). Install idler shaft (6) in camshaft idler gear (7). Position camshaft idler gear (7) and thrust washer (8) and install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 240 20 N m (177 15 lb ft).
Apply clean engine oil on the sleeve bearing in cluster idler gear (11) and the cluster gear shaft. Install cluster idler gear (11) on the cluster gear shaft. Make sure that the marks on cluster idler gear (11) and the crankshaft gear are in alignment with the rotation of the engine. Install thrust plate (10) and bolts (9).

Apply clean engine oil on spring (4) and plunger assembly (3).
Install spring (4) and plunger assembly (3) in the cylinder block.
Install cover (2) and bolts (1). End By:
Install the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Install".
Install the front housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Install".
