(2) Use adjustment screws (6) and the dial indicator to adjust the boring bar as near the center of the pin bores as possible. For a more accurate measurement, use a minimum amount (X) of boring bar beyond the centering ring as each pair of bores is checked. After the boring bar has been adjusted into position, make a record of the total dial indicator readings (T.I.R.) from each bore. The two sets of pin bores on each side must be within 0.10 (.004") T.I.R. while the bores from side to side must be within 0.25 (.010") T.I.R. Remove the boring bar and use a 1P3537 Dial Bore Gauge Group to measure the bore diameters [245 - 127.1Ø .05Ø (5.004"Ø .002"Ø); 235 - 114.4Ø .05Ø (4.504"Ø .002"Ø)]. Use these measurements and the T.I.R. reading above to find the best bore on each side of the machine. Put marks on these bores; they will be used later for alignment of the boring bar. (3) Remove the centering rings and FT1130 Fixtures, if necessary to get access for welding. Use E7018 Welding Rod to weld up (make smaller) any bore that does not have marks and its dimensions are beyond the tolerances given in step 2. Do not weld either of the two bores that have marks on them; they are to be used for alignment of the boring bar back to its original position. Weld two FT1544 Fixtures (7) to the outside bosses and FT1130 Fixtures (1) to the inside bosses. Be sure to keep the adjustment screws in alignment with the other fixtures. On 245 models, turn the legs of fixtures (7) so they are away from the machined grooves on the outside bosses. Access to these machined areas is necessary, so FT1545 Bars (8) can be used later in this instruction. Bars (8) can be used to help get the boring bar in the approximate center of the bore. Do not use bars (8) as the only tool to put the boring bar in alignment with the pin bores. Bars (8) will not give the boring bar enough support to get an accurate measurement for the precision machine work needed for repair of the pin bores. (4) On 235 Models, the left hand fixture (7) (cab side) is installed between the left side boom towers. Install the right hand fixture so the legs of the fixture are not in alignment with the lock bolt hole that has threads (it may be necessary to measure between this hole and the boring bar in a later step in this instruction). Install centering rings (2) in fixtures (1) and install boring bar (3). Adjust the boring bar to get it into the same location that was found earlier for the two bores with marks on them.
