Start By:a. remove fan driveb. remove engine front support.c. remove fan belt tightener1. Remove the support plate that fastens the upper timing gear cover to the cylinder head assembly.
Typical Example2. Remove six accessory drive covers to timing gear cover bolts (1).3. Remove two fuel injection pump housing to timing gear cover bolts (2) and two plates to cover bolts (3).4. If air compressor is still attached, remove one bolt from the front.
Typical Example4. Install tooling (A) in fan drive mounting holes. Remove bolts around perimeter of timing gear cover, and remove timing gear cover (4). The weight of the cover is 32 kg (70 lb). When installing timing cover use new gasket over dowels to insure location of gasket. Cut gasket to make it even with the surface of the cylinder block and bottom of the timing gear cover. 5. When installing, be sure that O-ring seal (5) is in position in the timing gear plate as shown.
