Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.This procedure is required on engines shipped with the 541-3607 Alternator Mounting Gp that supports high current alternators ordered through Design To Order (DTO). Engines ordered through DTO with this group or as ship loose kits do not have the mounting group or alternator installed. This procedure must be performed prior to installation of the alternator and mounting group or at any future replacement of the front housing. The larger mass of the high current alternators risks damaging the front housing during operation. This procedure does not apply to engines built with standard 75 A or 105 A alternators.Needle Peen Procedure
Note: Use flat or rounded needles for this procedure. Pointed or sharpened needles will remove excessive material from the front housing and should not be used.

Needle peen the areas the shown above in the illustrations.
Ensure that after completing the peen process that there is adequate paint coverage to prevent corrosion.
Install the 541-3607 Alternator Mounting Gp.
