(4) Articulation angle sensor Two articulation angle sensor signals are required for correct operation of the articulation function on the machine. Either the two separate sensors or the dual output sensor will provide a PWM signal input to the Implement ECM and the Transmission/Chassis ECM. This diagnostic code is associated with the number one sensor for the angle of machine articulation connected to each ECM at J2-41. The FMI 14 diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM determines that the signal from the sensor is incorrect.The sensor is a PWM sensor that operates at a frequency of approximately 500 hertz. When the machine is in the neutral position, the sensor duty cycle input to the ECM is approximately 55%. When the machine is articulated to the full left position, the duty cycle will be approximately 83%. When the machine is articulated to the full right position, the duty cycle will be approximately 37%.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The mechanical linkage for the position sensor is not functioning correctly.
The sensor needs to be calibrated.
The sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Note: Before performing this procedure, ensure that there are no active CID 0041 diagnostic codes for the 24 VDC sensor power supply. Ensure that the power supply for the angle sensor is correct.Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Test Step 1. CHECK THE MECHANICAL LINKAGE
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Remove any guards or shielding for the articulation sensors.
Check the mounting bolts for the articulation sensors. Ensure that the sensors are securely mounted.
Visually inspect the mechanical linkage for the articulation sensors. Verify that all mechanical components are tight and in good condition. Verify that the adjustment of the linkage is correct. Expected Result:All mechanical linkage and adjustment components for the articulation sensor(s) are in good condition and no mechanical connections are loose.Results:
OK - All mechanical linkage and adjustment for the articulation sensor is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - All mechanical linkage and adjustment for the articulation sensors
