Connections of the transmission oil temperature sensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the transmission oil temperature sensor. The FMI 03 is recorded when the ECU reads the signal from the transmission oil temperature sensor as being above normal voltage.Conditions that can cause this diagnostic code to be activated are listed below:
The circuit is open.
The signal circuit is shorted to the positive battery.
The sensor has failed.
The ECU has failed. (ECU failure is unlikely.).Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0177 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE SENSOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Disconnect the sensor from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, measure the voltage between contact 1 (wire 428-OR) and contact 2 (wire 202-BK).Expected Result:The voltage should measure approximately 5 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is approximately 5 VDC. Proceed to test step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage is not approximately 5 VDC. Repair: There is a problem with the machine harness or the ECU has failed. ECU failure is unlikely. Proceed to test step 3.Test Step 2. CHECK FOR AN OPEN IN THE CIRCUIT.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors from the ECU.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, install a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire 428-OR) to contact 2 (wire 202-BK).
At the machine harness connector J1, measure the resistance from contact J1-22 (wire 428-OR) to all possible connections of negative battery. Refer to Electrical Schematic, KENR8292 for more information on the circuit.Expected Result:The resistance should measure less than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance measures less than 5 ohms. Proceed to 3.
NOT OK - The resistance measurement is greater than 5 ohms.Repair: There is an open in the signal circuit. Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT
The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.
The machine harness connectors J1 and J2 remain disconnected.
Remove the jumper wire that was installed in the previous Test Step.
At the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors for the ECU, measure the resistance for the signal contact of the sensor J1-22 (wire 428-OR) to all other J1 and J2 contacts.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement should be greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.Repair: The sensor has failed. Replace the sensor and verify that the new sensor corrected the problem. If the problem persists, exit this procedure and perform this procedure again.STOP
NOT OK - The resistance measures less than 5000 ohms.Repair: There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between the signal circuit and the circuit with the low resistance measurement. Repair or replace the harness.STOP
