Information:
The new 2W0712 Seal Assembly (1) is assembled at the factory. Seal (1) must be installed over the shaft and into the housing at the same time. Spring (2) [part of seal assembly (1)] must also be in compression to a specific distance. This is done in one step with 5P9722 Driver (3). The impeller on some water pumps is not machined on the back, and the 2W0712 Seal Assembly cannot be used. Any impeller with 9N139X or 3Y4717 on the back must be removed and a new impeller installed.Tools from 5P7361 Tool Group and some existing tools are needed to disassemble and assemble the water pump and install new 2W0712 Seal Assembly. See the following chart. During assembly of the water pump, 9S3263 Thread Lock is used to hold the bearing that is next to the pulley.6V1541 Quick Cure Primer can be used with 9S3263 Thread Lock.Disassembly Of The Water Pump
1 Fasten the pump shaft in a vise and remove the bolt as shown. Put 5P7356 Spacer (1) on the end of the shaft; fasten 5F7465 Puller (2) to pulley (3) with 1F5842 Bolts (4) and 9N869 Washers. Remove the pulley. 2 Use 1P529 Handle (5), 1P460 Plate (6) and a press to remove the shaft, seal and impeller; move spacer (7) to the side of the housing and use a press against a push block on spacer (7) as shown to remove bearing (8). If bearing (8) was not installed with 9S3263 Thread Lock, it can be lifted from the housing. 3 Use 1P1861 Pliers (9) to remove retainer ring (10). Remove bearing (11). 4 Use a press and 5P7354 Pin (12) to remove the shaft and seal assembly from impeller (13).5 To remove the seal from the shaft, temporarily install shaft (14) and seal (15) in pump housing (16). Press shaft (14) from seal (15) with pin (12). Remove old seal (15).Assembly Of Water Pump
1 All oil must be cleaned from the inside of the pump housing and the outside diameter of the outer bearing before assembly. This can be done by one of three methods: A Use a clean towel with diesel fuel to remove as much of the oil as possible. Then use a clean towel with acetone or lacquer thinner to remove the remainder of oil film.B Use a clean towel with 4C4204 Cleaner to remove the oil.C Cover the inside of the housing and the outside diameter of the bearing with 6V1541 Quick Cure Primer. Let the primer become completely dry in the air. The use of this primer decreases the time needed for the thread lock to cure (become hard). 2 Install bearing (1), ring (2) and spacer (3) in the pump housing. Put a thin layer of 9S3263 Thread Lock on the outside diameter of bearing (4) and on the inside of the housing. Use a press and install bearing (4).
Do not let any thread lock get into the bearing, or the bearing
