Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Illustration 3 g03391803The drain valve is located in the rear frame access panel (1) of the machine.
Remove the plug from the drain hose (2) in order to drain the oil from the engine.
Open the drain valve (3) and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Close the drain valve.
Clean the plug and reinstall the plug in the drain valve.
Reinstall rear frame access panel.

Open the engine access door (4) on the right side of the machine. Use a strap type wrench to remove engine oil filter (5).
Clean the housing base. Make sure that the used gasket is completely removed.
Apply a light coat of clean engine oil to the new gasket that is provided with the new filter. Note: There are rotation index marks on each engine oil filter that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 of a turn from each other. When you tighten engine oil filters, use the rotation marks as a guide.
Install the engine oil filter hand tight until the seal contacts the base. Note: Note the position of the index marks on the filter in relation to a fixed point on the filter base.
Tighten the filter according to the instructions that are printed on the filter. Use the index marks as a guide.

Fill the crankcase with oil through oil filler tube (6). Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the proper amount of oil.
Start the engine and allow the oil to circulate. Check for leaks.
Check the engine oil level with oil dipstick (7). Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
If the oil level is correct, close the engine access doors.
