Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

Disconnect hose (2) and hose (3) from heat exchanger (1) .

Remove bolts (4). Remove bonnet (5) from heat exchanger (1). Remove the O-ring seals from the bonnet.
Remove water temperature regulator (6) and lip seal (7) from heat exchanger (1) .Installation Procedure

Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (7) in heat exchanger (1). Ensure that the lip seal is fully seated in the counterbore.
Install water temperature regulator (6) into heat exchanger (1) .
Install the O-ring seals in bonnet (5). Position the bonnet on the heat exchanger and install bolts (4) .

Connect hose (2) and hose (3) to heat exchanger (1) .
Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".End By: Install the alternator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove and Install".
