Information:

Initialization
Initialization is an internal process within the CMS control. During initialization, the CMS control listens to the CAT data link and the harness code inputs. From this information, the CMS control learns about the machine it is installed on. Things such as: engine oil pressure is coming from an electronic engine control or that actual gear information is coming from an electronic transmission control.Normally initialization occurs when the CMS control is replaced (the harness code changes). However, when a previously used CMS control is used as a replacement, initialization is possibly necessary. Unexplainable faults with the CAT data link can occur if the CMS control is not initialized correctly. The service person must activate the initialization process when the following condition exists or is suspected. The condition is:The CMS control to be installed was taken out of service from an application that had the same machine code as the CMS control to be removed. If this condition exists or is suspected, then perform the Initialization Procedure.Initialization Procedure
This procedure causes the initialization process to occur on any CMS control. Initialization basically requires that the CMS control be powered up with a harness code that is different than the harness code when it was last powered down.1. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Determine whether the harness code inputs are hard wired in the machine harness or accessible at a harness code plug; use the Electrical System Schematic in the machine Service Manual.* There is a harness code plug. Remove the harness code plug. Go to Step 4.* The harness code inputs are hard wired in the machine harness. Go to Step 2.2. Disconnect the machine harness from the CMS control. At the machine harness connector, for the CMS control, remove one of the following contacts which is grounded. Grounded connector contact to be removed: No. 25, 26, 27, 28 or 29. The connector contact that is removed must be connected to a ground wire in the machine harness.3. With tape, secure the removed connector contact out of the way. Reconnect the machine harness to the CMS control.4. Turn the disconnect and key start switches to the ON position.5. Various indicators in the CMS display area illuminate. Wait 10 seconds.6. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Depending on the previous procedure performed either reinstall the harness code plug (from Step 1) or reinstall the grounded connector contact (from Step 2).7. Make sure the CMS control successfully completes the self test; see, Self Test.Glossary Of CMS Terms
