Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Start the machine. Place the fore boom and the offset boom in the vertical position. Lower the bucket and the stick to the ground.

Use link (2) to connect offset boom (1) to fore boom (3). The link is located on the left side of fore boom (3) .
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

Disconnect one hydraulic hose assembly (7) that travels to the rod end of offset boom cylinder (4). Install a plug on the hose assembly and on offset boom cylinder (4). This procedure will prevent oil loss. This procedure also prevents contaminants from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect one hydraulic hose assembly (6) that travels to the head end of offset boom cylinder (4). Install a plug on the hose assembly and on offset boom cylinder (4). This procedure will prevent oil loss. This procedure also prevents contaminants from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect grease line (5) from the head end of offset boom cylinder (4) .
Disconnect grease line (8) from the rod end of offset boom cylinder (4) .
Fasten two lifting slings and a hoist to both ends of offset boom cylinder (4). Place a small amount of lifting tension on the cylinder.Note: The machine may be equipped with shims between the components at the pin joints. Place identification marks on the shims in order to show the location of the shims.

Remove retaining bolt (11) and the washer.
Use a hammer and a punch to remove pin assembly (12) and the shims (if equipped) at the rod end of offset boom cylinder (4) .
Remove retaining bolt (9) and the washer.
Use a hammer and a punch to remove pin assembly (10) and the shims (if equipped) at the head end of offset boom cylinder (4). The weight of offset boom cylinder (4) is approximately 62 kg (137 lb).
