Connections for the Communication Adapter III and Caterpillar® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET)
The components that are needed to use the Communication Adapter III and Cat® ET to determine diagnostic codes are listed:
(1) Current version of Cat® ET software
(2) 317-7485 Communication Adapter Group
(3) Service Diagnostic Cable
(4) Cable (between Communication Adapter and laptop)When using Cat® ET to diagnose machines covered in this manual, cable assembly 457-6114 is required. This harness allows connections between a 9-Pin Port Connector or a 14-Pin Service Port Connector with "Ethernet" and the Communication Adapter 3 module.The new 14-Pin Service Port Connector is designed to work with machines that use a 9-pin Service Port Connector. The new 14-Pin Service Port Connector includes an "Ethernet" port connector which allows software to be flashed. These machines require the use of the 14-Pin Service Connector Cable for the CA3 Communication adapter.

(1) 457-6114 Cable AsCat® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET) is a software program that is used to access data. The service technician will use Cat® ET to perform the maintenance on the vehicle. Some options available with Cat® ET are listed below:
Diagnosis of problems.
Viewing diagnostic trouble codes.
Viewing active event codes and logged event codes.
View the status of parameters.
Clear active diagnostic trouble codes and clear logged diagnostic trouble codes.
Calibration of the machines systems.
Program the ECU (Flash) with the "WINflash" program. Refer toTesting and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Unit - Flash Program".
Print reports.See Troubleshooting, "Determining Diagnostic Trouble Codes". Diagnostic information is accessed with the following drop-down menus:
Active diagnostic trouble codes.
Logged diagnostic trouble codes.Status Groups For Cat® ET
