Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the rocker shaft assembly and the pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Push Rod - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.Spring force will be released when covers are removed.Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
Note: Place an identification mark on each of the components of the rocker shaft for installation purposes.
Remove ring (3) and washer (2).
Remove the spring, the washer and rocker arm (1).

Use a hammer and a punch to remove dowel (4) from bracket (6) only.
Remove bracket (6) from shaft (5).

Remove the following components: (12) Rocker arm (9) Wash (11) Spring (8) Washer (10) Rocker arm (7) Bracket
Disassemble the remainder of the rocker shaft in the same way.
Check the bore in the rocker arm bearings. The diameter with new bearing must be 18.448 0.013 mm (0.7263 0.0005 inch). The maximum permissible clearance between the shaft and a worn bearing must not be more than 0.20 mm (0.008 inch).
