Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
When a PL641 device ( 440-2105 Electronic Control Module (change level 17) or 480-3535 Electronic Control Gp (change level 06)) with a "YG" serial number suffix code is installed on a D2 / F-LRC series Excavator with level 1, 2, or 3 tamper installed, "Machine Security" warning message will be displayed on the monitor and engine starting is denied. This issue is due to incompatibility between the PL641 device with "YG" serial number suffix and current machine and engine software.Solution
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a permanent repair has not been identified. As an interim action, to start the engine keep the key in ON condition for approximately three minutes, authorization will be granted and the machine can start. There will be no notification sent to the operator, and this situation will be persistent for every engine start attempt.Dealers should take steps to quarantine any of the "YG" suffix radios in their inventory and do not use them as replacement devices, until machine and engine software can be made available and can be uploaded onto the machine at the same time. Caterpillar will notify dealers when this new software is available. Software updates are in progress and expected to be released by the end of third quarter 2018.
