CONVERSION AR-ENGINE 4250779 - Caterpillar

1. Lift the rear of the scraper and install tooling (A) under the frame as shown. 2. Remove cap (1) from the wheel and drain the oil for the wheel bearings. 3. Fasten a hoist to the wheel as shown. Remove retainer (2) from the axle housing. 4. Remove bearing cone (3) and the wheel from the axle housing. Weight of the wheel with a 33.25 x 35 tire is approximately 3300 lb. (1485 kg). If necessary, loosen the slack adjuster to remove the wheel. 5. Remove Duo-Cone seal (6) from retainer (4) and the inside of the wheel.6. Remove bearing cone (5), the spacer and retainer (4) from the axle housing. 7. Fasten a hoist to tooling (B) and install the tooling on the inside bearing cup as shown.8. Use tooling (B) to remove the inside bearing cup (7) and the outside bearing cup from the wheel.Install Wheels, Bearings And Seals
1. Be sure the O-ring seal is in place inside retainer (1) and put clean oil on the O-ring seal.2. Install retainer (1) on the axle housing with pins (2) in alignment with the holes in the axle housing. 3. Use tool (B) to install the Duo-Cone seals in the retainer and wheel. The rubber seals and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry. After installation of the seals, put oil on the contact surfaces of the metal seals. 4. Install spacer (3) with the chamfer in. Install bearing cone (4) on the axle housing. 5. Lower the temperature of bearing cups for the wheel. Install outer bearing cup (5) and inner bearing cup (6)
