The Orange Peel Grapple uses five hydraulic cylinders to operate the shells.When oil is supplied to head end (1) of the cylinder, the oil forces piston (4) to extend. Since piston (4) and rod (5) are connected, the rod is forced out of the cylinder housing. This action closes the shells of the Orange Peel Grapple. When oil is supplied to rod end (2) of the cylinder, the oil forces piston (4) to retract. This action causes the shells of the Orange Peel Grapple to open.The recommended pressure of the cylinder is 22500 kPa (3263 psi) for grapple open. The maximum working pressure of the cylinder is 35000 kPa (5076 psi). If the host machine cannot produce enough pressure, the performance of the Orange Peel Grapple will be diminished.
