2. Remove cover (1) from the transfer gear case. 3. Remove spiral snap ring (2). Install a 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolt in the drive shaft (3) and slide the drive shaft out approximately 12 in. (30 cm). 4. Remove plate (4) and shaft (5) that connect the front section of the drive shaft, from the engine, to the rear section of the drive shaft. 5. Remove yoke (7) from the cage. When yoke (7) is removed approximately .25 U.S. gal. (0.95 litre) of oil will drain from the cage.6. Disconnect oil line (6) from the cage. 7. Remove two bolts that hold cage (8) to the differential case and install two 1/2"-13 NC guide pins. Install two 1/2"-13 NC forcing screws (9) and remove cage (8).Install Drive Shaft (Rear Section)
1. Be sure the O-ring seal is in place on cage (1). Put the cage in place on the differential case as shown. 2. Install bolts (2) that hold the cage in place. 3. Connect oil line (3) to the cage.4. Put clean oil on the lip of the seal in the cage. Install yoke (4) in the cage. 5. Put shaft (5) in position on the front section of the drive shaft and install the bolts that hold it. 6. Put plate (6) in position and install the bolts that hold it.7. Use a pipe that is approximately 3 ft. (91.4 cm) long with a 2.5 in. (63.5 mm) inside diameter to lift the inside end of the drive shaft (8) so it can be installed in the splines in the yoke. 8. Install spiral snap ring (7) that holds the drive shaft in place. 9. Install cover (9) on the transfer gear case.10. Install the rear crankcase guard.Disassemble Drive Shaft (Rear Section)
start bya) remove drive shaft (rear section) 1. Use tool (A) to remove the snap ring from the yoke. Remove race (1), spacer (2) and race (3) from the yoke. 2. Use tooling (B) to remove plugs (4) from the cage. After plugs (4) are removed remove the dowels that hold the two race and roller assemblies in place. 3. Remove seal (5) and race and roller assemblies (6) from the cage.Assemble Drive Shaft (Rear Section)
1. Use tooling (A) to install race and roller assemblies (2) in the cage until they are tight against their seats.2. Use tooling (A) to install seal (1) in the cage with the lip in as shown. 3. Install dowels (3) that hold race and roller assemblies (2) in place. Use a punch and hammer to install the plugs that hold dowels (3) in place. 4. Heat races (4) and (5) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install race (5), spacer (6) and race (4) on the yoke. Use tool (B) to install the snap ring that holds the races and spacer on the yoke.end by:a) install drive shaft (rear section)
