Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing.If the machine begins to move during test, reduce the engine speed immediately and move the parking and secondary brake control to the ENGAGED position.
A change in the braking characteristics or a low pressure warning may be an indication of a failure in one of the brake circuits. Personal injury or death may occur if the machine is operated before repairs have been made or before all circuits have been checked. Always check the brakes after brake repairs have been made and before the machine is put back into use.
This procedure should be used to determine if the service brakes are functioning properly. This procedure is not intended to measure the maximum brake holding effort. The brake holding effort that is required to sustain a machine at a specific engine rpm varies depending on the machine.Test the service brakes on a dry, level surface.Check the area around the machine. Make sure that the machine is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.Make sure that the steering frame lock is in the STORED position.Fasten the seat belt before you test the service brakes.
Start the engine. Raise the work tool slightly.
Apply heavy force on the right service brake pedal.
Disengage the parking brake.
Move the trigger switch on the steering control lever to "F" for FORWARD position. Place the transmission speed control in "3" for THIRD SPEED.
Gradually increase the engine speed to high idle. The service brakes should prevent the machine from moving.
Reduce the engine speed to low idle. Place the transmission direction and speed control in the NEUTRAL position.
Lower the work tool to the ground. Engage the parking brake. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
If the machine was able to move during the testing of the service brakes, inspect the brake components for wear or damage. Service the brake system before you return the machine to operation.
After the brakes are serviced, perform this procedure again.
