Installation Procedure
Inspect all parts and clean all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.
Attach appropriate nylon lifting slings and a hoist to the tailgate. Use the hoist in order to position the tailgate to the truck body. The tailgate weighs 227 kg (500 lb).

Align the holes in the tailgate to the holes in the mounting bracket. Lower the temperature of shaft (9). Install the shaft and the spacers that secure tailgate (1) to bracket (11). Install the shaft and the spacers on the other side of the tailgate.Note: Use the spacers in order to limit the amount of float at each side of the tailgate. There should be a maximum tolerance of 2.5 mm (0.10 inch).
Install bolt (10), the washer, and the nut that secures shaft (9) to the bracket and tailgate (1). Install the bolt to the other side of the tailgate.
Install grease fitting (8) to shaft (9). Install the grease fitting in the shaft on the other side of the tailgate.

Place two plates (7) into position on the machine. Install pin (6) that secures the plates to the truck body. Use two people in order to install the pin and the two plates. The weight of each plates is 10 kg (22 lb).
Install the two spacer pins to link (4). Position the link to tailgate (1). Install bolt (2), bolt (3), the washers, and the nuts that secure the link to the tailgate. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 700 90 N m (516 66 lb ft).
Remove the nylon lifting slings from tailgate (1) .
Use the grease fittings in order to lubricate the shafts.
