SIZE=-1>*All 3400 Series EnginesThe new 2W1733 and 2W1734 Crankshaft Seal Groups for use on the above engines, are now available from the Parts Department. The new seals are quite different from the former seals because of the hydrodynamic grooves in the oil sealing lip. These grooves in the seal lip move lubrication oil back into the engine crankcase as the crankshaft turns. Because of this type design, the front seal group for an engine is different from the rear seal group. The installed position of the seal lip grooves is very important, because the grooves are very sensitive to the direction of crankshaft rotation. If a specific seal group is installed on the wrong end of the engine, lubrication oil can actually be taken out of the engine, because the grooves in the seal lip are in the wrong direction in relation to crankshaft rotation. See the chart that follows for seal group installation location. *Do not use as a replacement for 9N6600 Seal in BrakeSaver A- Seal Installation Location on Engine.B- Seal Group Part Number.1 Use The Correct Tools For Seal Group Installation
Two new tools are needed to install the new seals. The new tools are the 6V6142 Installer Tool and the 6V6143 Installer. For seal installation, use the procedure given for 3400 Series Engines in Special Instruction Form SMHS7100. During the installation procedure, use the 6V6142 Installer instead of the 6V2086 Installer for installation of a front seal, and use the 6V6143 Installer instead of the 6V2087 Installer for installation of a rear seal. All other tools needed for the seal installation are the same as those given in Special Instruction Form SMHS7100.2 Separation Of The Seal From The Sleeve Is Not Permissible
The material in the large lip of the seal can be damaged easily. Fingers, fingernails, wires or the edge of the sleeve can put a scratch on the surface of the seal lip. It is possible that a scratch or a rub (which can not be seen) from a finger, can damage the seal enough that it can not be used. In these seal groups, the sleeve is installed in the seal, by the seal group supplier, for two very good reasons, as follows: A. To give better protection to the special material on the seal lip.B. To make for easier installation. The seal and the sleeve are installed, both at the same time.3 Once There Is Separation Of A Seal And Sleeve, They Must Not Be Used Again
Once there is separation of a sleeve and seal, one from the other, they can not be used again. When you try to put the seal on the sleeve, or the sleeve in the seal, the sleeve will always damage the seal, and neither part can be used again. Always install a new seal group if there is separation of these two parts.4 Used Seal Groups - Do Not Use Again
