Installation of bars on top of hood assembly.--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------D10 Tractors with Serial Numbers 84W646-up, including 84W610 through 84W640, have the turbochargers on the side of the engine. These tractors use a new hood assembly that keeps rain water out of the engine compartment. An angle on each side of the hood assembly directs (sends) the water away from the engine compartment. The hood assembly also extends over the top of the radiator guard so there is no gap between these parts.
Earlier D10 Tractors have the turbochargers on the rear of the engine. The hood assembly on these tractors sometimes lets rain water get into the air inlet. Water can also be pulled through the radiator core by the fan. This water can cause dust or dirt deposits in the air filter element and radiator core. As these components become filled with dust or dirt, there will be a restriction in the air flow.
A modification can be made to the hood assemblies on the earlier D10 Tractors, Serial Number 84W1-84W609 and 84W641-84W645. The modification can also be done on narrow gauge D10 Tractors (76X) that have the turbochargers on the rear of the engine.
Modification For Earlier Hood Assemblies
1. Weld a steel bar that is approximately 10 mm (.38") square by 790 mm (31.12") long on top of the hood. See Illustration 1.
