Start By:
a.) Remove the outer axle shafts. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle Shaft - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1.)Drain the oil from the final drive into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance, "Final Drive Oil - Change".

2.)Remove bolts (1). Block sprocket segment (2) with suitable cribbing.

3.)Install Tooling (A). Remove bolts (3). Slide final drive planetary carrier (4) to the end of Tooling (A).

4.) Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to final drive planetary carrier (4). Apply tension.
5.) Remove the nuts from Tooling (A) and remove final drive planetary carrier (4). The weight of final drive planetary carrier (4) is approximately 100 kg (220 lb). Remove the O-ring seal from final drive planetary carrier (4).

6.) Remove bolts (5) and retainer (6).

7.) Please follow the Disassembly and Assembly procedure RENR5257 "Final Drive Planetary Carrier (In Chassis)" to replace the Lip Seal.
