When a hoist is used to lift any part or assembly, stand clear of the area under the part being raised. Always make sure that the hoist has adequate lifting capacity and the wire cable is not damaged.Failure to follow this instruction could lead to injury or death.Approximate weights of the components are shown in the table which follows.
Do not check for leaks with your hands. Pin hole (very small) leaks can result in a high velocity oil stream that will be invisible close to the hose. This oil can penetrate the skin and cause personal injury. Use cardboard or paper to locate pin hole leaks.
Best Practice Description
This best practice is a new method to remove the rust from a fuel tank by applying a chemical solvent called Evapo-rust. Refer to illustration 1. The Evapo-rust solvent does not have any environmental or safety hazards, and is effective and can be reused. This operation can be performed by one technician, and requires the fuel tank to lay on each side for 2 hours each.This new process replaces the former process which required up to four technicians and took up to five days to complete. The former process required the fuel tank to have a plate cut out for access and sandblasting was used to remove the rust. With this new process the time to clean the tanks was reduced from five days down to one and a half days.Evapo-rust information and specifications are available on the Internet and the product is available through multiple sources.

Check the rust level inside the fuel tank through the tanks holes as shown in the image below.

Implementation
It is not necessary to completely fill the tank with solvent. By rotating the tank, a partial fill can be used to clean all the rust inside the tank. Two hours in each position is sufficient for cleaning the rust. Refer to the following images for how to orient the fuel tank for cleaning.
