Note:
It is normal to find traces of oil at the compressor inlet and outlet to the turbocharger when the engine is running with a closed crankcase ventilation system. This is due to oil carry over being passed through the induction system upstream of the turbocharger. This is an inherent design characteristic of a closed crankcase ventilation system and is not necessarily an indication of turbocharger seal leakage. Normal deposits experienced due to the oil carry from the closed crankcase ventilation system will be a viscous coating of oil, carbon and other residues on the internal surfaces of the inlet system.
If there is a genuine turbo seal leakage there should be a significant amount oil found at the compressor outlet and not the inlet. The appearance of the oil from a seal leakage will be of the same consistency as the engine oil.
Inspect the turbo charger in accordance with RENR2416 and REHS3721.
If the turbo charger has failed replace the turbo charger in accordance with RENR6437.
