Information:
Note: Make an alignment mark on the taper lock ring. The mark will ensure that the taper lock ring is oriented properly when installed with respect to the main rotor shaft.
Ensure that the exciter leads (51) are disconnected from the diode crescents (50). Tape the leads to the main rotor shaft (53). Protect the leads from possible damage as the exciter rotor is removed. Remove the eight taper lock mounting bolts (52).
Illustration 19 g01573413
Install the M10 bolts (55) in the four threaded holes that are used in order to remove the taper lock ring (56). Note: The taper lock mounting bolts (52) can be used for this procedure.
Illustration 20 g01574254
Use an alternating pattern in order to turn the bolts (55). Each bolt must be turned only one half of a turn at a time. Continue to use this process to turn the bolts until the taper lock ring (56) is loose. Loosen the bolts until the exciter rotor can be placed in a position to be removed. Note: Do not completely disengage the taper lock ring (56) from the exciter rotor. Damage to the exciter rotor or the main rotor shaft can occur if the exciter rotor is allowed to drop against the rotor shaft. The exciter rotor could possibly fall off the rotor shaft if the taper lock ring (56) is removed.
Remove the diode assembly. Refer to the "Diode Assembly - Remove and Install" section.

Example of Link Bracket Assembled to Exciter Rotor
Assemble a 138-7576 Link Bracket (57) to the rotor in order to support the rotor. Refer to Illustration 21. Note: The lifting device or hoist must be able to lift the exciter rotor assembly safely. The exciter rotor assembly weights approximately 57 kg (125 lb).
Use a small amount of lifting force on the exciter rotor. Remove the taper lock ring (56).

Taper Lock Ring Removed from Exciter Rotor
Finish removing the exciter rotor. Remove the 1600 Frame Exciter Stator
If equipped, the removal of the PMG components must precede the exciter components. The terminal box may need to be removed.
Place a suitable lifting device (62) around the stator.
Illustration 23 g01574556
Make alignment marks (60) on the stator and the end bracket.
Disconnect the exciter stator wiring.
Remove the four stator mounting bolts (61).
Remove the stator. 1600 Frame Exciter Rotor and Stator Installation
The process in order to install the components is a reverse of the disassembly process.1600 Frame Stator Installation
Ensure that the alignment marks (60) match. Install the stator. Refer to Illustration 23.
Install the four stator mounting bolts (61).
Connect the exciter stator wiring. 1600 Frame Exciter Rotor Installation
Use a suitable lifting device to assemble the exciter rotor to the main rotor.
Install the taper lock ring and the mounting bolts for the taper lock ring.
Install the diode crescents. Refer to the "Diode Assembly - Remove and Install" section.
Connect the leads for the exciter rotor.
Inspect components and wiring for any possible damage. Remove 1800 Frame Exciter Rotor and Exciter Stator
