Information:
Remove and Install Compression Brake (Jake Brake)
Start By:a. remove valve covers The remove and install procedure is the same for each of the three compression brake (Jake Brake) assemblies. 1. Disconnect wires (1) from compression brake (2).2. Remove four bolts (3) and two nuts (4).3. Remove compression brake (2).4. Install compression brake (2) in the reverse order of removal.5. Tighten the nuts and bolts holding compression brake (2) as follows:a. Tighten the two center bolts (3) and two nuts (4) to a torque of 54 N m (40 lb ft).b. Tighten the two outer bolts (3) to a torque of 54 N m (40 lb ft).c. Tighten the two center bolts (3) to a torque of 109 N m (81 lb ft).d. Tighten the two outer bolts (3) to a torque of 109 N m (81 lb ft).e. Tighten two nuts (4) to a torque of 81 N m (60 lb ft).End By:a. install valve covers.Disassemble Compression Brake (Jake Brake)
Start By:a. remove compression brake (Jake Brake)
Never remove any compression brake component with the engine running. Personal injury may result.
Do not disassemble or tamper with the solenoid valve. Engine damage could result.
1. Using a 7/8 inch socket, remove solenoid valve (1).2. Remove and discard the three solenoid seal rings (2). If the lower ring stays in the bottom of the housing solenoid bore, remove with a seal pick.3. Wash solenoid valve (1) with approved cleaning solvent. Use a brush to clean the oil screen. When clean, dry solenoid valve (1) with compressed air (approx. 15-20 lbs).
Remove control valve covers (3) carefully. Control valve covers are under load from the control valve springs. Remove with care to avoid personal injury.
4. Press down on control valve cover (3) to relieve spring pressure.5. Remove screw (4) using a 5/32 inch allen wrench.6. Slowly remove control valve cover (3) until spring force ceases, then remove two control valve springs (5).7. Using needle-nose pliers, remove control valve (6).
Do not dissemble or tamper with slave piston adjusting screw (8). Engine damage could result.
8. Loosen slave piston adjusting screw locknut (7) and back out slave piston adjusting screw (8) until the slave piston is fully retracted. Slave piston adjusting screw (8) should be loose. 9. Place Tool (A) over slave piston adjusting screw (8). 10. Turn the handle slowly until retaining ring (9) is compressed about 1.00 mm (0.040 inch), relieving pressure against the retaining ring.11. Remove the slave piston retaining ring (9) with retaining ring pliers. Back out the holder until the springs are loose. Remove the tool.12. Remove all retainer washer (10), inner slave piston spring (11), pushrod (12), outer slave piston spring (13) and slave piston (14). Ensure there is no binding or burrs. Clean in an approved cleaning solvent or replace, as necessary. Check to see if the retaining ring (9) is intact. Inspect the piston/pushrod interface. Pitted, cracked or galled components should be replaced. 13. Remove
