Introduction
This instruction provides the proper techniques and procedures for the surface preparation and application of 8C-8422, 1U8-846 and 4C-5300 Gasket Maker (Flexible).8C-8422, 1U-8846 and 4C-5300 Gasket Maker (Flexible)
The part number reflects the quantity of the Gasket Maker:* 8C-8422 ... Bulk* 1U-8846 ... 50 ml (1.69 oz)4C-5300 ... 300 ml (10.3 oz) .. andWill be referred to as GASKET MAKER in this instruction. The GASKET MAKER is a flexible gasket material that cures on active surfaces (iron, steel, aluminum) without a primer. The GASKET MAKER does not cure outside of the joint. The GASKET MAKER features:* Moderate strength for thin flexible flanges* Service temperature up to 177°C (350°F)* Large gap fill, up to 0.5 mm (0.20 in) .. and* Fast cure speedIt can be applied via:* Screen printing* Roll coating* Manually* Automatic tracing* Pneumatic caulking gun6V-1541 and 4C-9500 Quick Cure Primer
The proper application and curing of the GASKET MAKER requires the surface(s) to be prepped with a quick cure type of primer/cleaner. The 6V-1541 and 4C-9500 Quick Cure Primers are packaged in 178 ml (6 fl oz) containers. The part number reflects the type of dispenser and will be referred to as PRIMER in this instruction:* 6V-1541 ... Pump Type Dispenser* 4C-9500 ... Aerosol (CO2 Propellant)8T-9011 Component Cleaner
The 8T-9011 Component Cleaner is the recommended cleaning solvent and will be referred to as CLEANER in this instruction. Isopropyl alcohol can also be used. The 8T-9011 Component Cleaner is NOT for use on Deutsch multi-pin connectors.Application Procedures
Pneumatic Caulking Tools
The recommended pneumatic caulking tools are:* Model No. SEMCO 550 (MRS Industrial Part No. 231551)* Pressure Regulator .. Model No. SEMCO R07-200-RNKA (MRS Industrial Part No. 234567) Pneumatic regulators must be set at 103 to 138 kPa (15 to 20 psi).Surface Preparation
Surfaces to seal must be free of dirt, grease and oil.
Do NOT use liquids such as kerosene or diesel fuel to clean surfaces. The use of petroleum base solvents leave a residue preventing the proper curing of the GASKET MAKER.Use only the recommended or alternate cleaners in this instruction.
Adjacent Parts and/or Surface Protection
Adjacent parts and/or surfaces must be protected during the cleaning operation. If surface material to be sealed is resistant to corrosion the recommended PRIMER, in this instruction, must be used to prime activate the surface to allow the GASKET MAKER to cure. The recommended PRIMER, in this instruction, may also be used for fast cure.Remove dirt, grease and any oil from both mating surfaces.
Do NOT use liquids such as kerosene or diesel fuel to clean surfaces. The use of petroleum base solvents leave a residue preventing the proper curing of the GASKET MAKER.Use only the recommended or alternate cleaners in this instruction.
The recommended PRIMER, in this instruction, may also be used as a cleaning solvent. Using the recommended PRIMER as a cleaner does NOT provide a primed surface. If surface material is resistant to corrosion, prime activate one surface using the recommended PRIMER. Allow the surface to air dry.Service Installation
Disassemble Joint
Disassembly is best accomplished by separating components through tension. The recommended GASKET
