Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Attach rear axle assembly (7) to Tooling (B) with suitable chains. The weight of rear axle assembly (7) is approximately 545 kg (1200 lb).
Install rear axle assembly (7). Position block (13) and install bolts (12). Repeat this step for the opposite side.

Position cover (11) and install bolts (10). Repeat this step for the opposite side.

Connect hose assemblies (8) and (9) to rear axle assembly (7).

Connect hose assembly (6) to rear axle assembly (7).

Install new bolts (5) in order to connect rear drive shaft (4). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).

Connect parking brake cable assembly (1). Install pin (2). Install clip (3).
Install the rear tires and rims. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Rear) - Remove and Install".

Raise the rear of the machine. Remove Tooling (A). Lower the machine to the ground.
Purge the air from the brakes. Refer to Testing and Adjusting Manual, "Brake System Air - Purge".
