Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Illustration 1 g01065146Note: Ring gear (3) must be installed with the chamfered side of the teeth upward. The chamfered side of the gear teeth will be facing toward the starting motor when the flywheel is installed. This will ensure that the starting motor will engage correctly.
Raise the temperature of ring gear (3) to a maximum temperature of 316 °C (600 °F). Install ring gear (3) on flywheel (2).

Install Tooling (B) in the crankshaft.
Install Tooling (A) on flywheel (2). Use a suitable lifting device. The weight of the flywheel is approximately 35 kg (77 lb). Position flywheel (2) on the crankshaft.
Apply clean engine oil to the threads of bolts (1).
Install bolts (1). Remove Tooling (B). Install bolts (1) in place of Tooling (B).
Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 272 27 N m (200 20 lb ft).
Remove Tooling (A) from the flywheel.
Check the flywheel runout. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Flywheel - Inspect". End By:
Install the flywheel adapter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Adapter - Remove and Install".
