Information:
The Test Procedure for the Silicon Controlled Rectifiers is required whenever the Breaker Bell Alarm Supervisor Board has been tripped. This procedure is needed in order to determine if the Static Switches have been damaged by the event that was detected by the Breaker Bell Alarm Supervisor Board. The test consists of checking resistance across the input and outputs of the Silicon Controlled Rectifiers for the Static Switch.
Unlock both doors to the Static Switch cabinet.
Personal injury or death can result from high voltage. When power generation equipment must be in operation to make tests and/or adjustments, high voltage and current are present.Improper test equipment can fail and present a high voltage shock hazard to its user.Use electrical safety gloves when you are working in the cabinets.Make sure the testing equipment is designed for and correctly operated for high voltage and current tests being made.
Open both doors to the Static Switch cabinet.

(265) Heat Sink (266) Upper Mounting Bracket (267) Gate Lead Terminal Blocks (268) Snubber Assemblies (269) Lower Mounting Bracket (270) Clear Shield (271) Output Bus Bar (272) Input Bus Bar
Locate the input bus bars and output bus bars for the Line Static Switch and the Bypass Static Switch.Refer to Illustration 1 for the switch designators. Refer to Illustration 2 for the input bus bar locations and output bus bar locations on each switch.
Use a Digital Multimeter set to Ohms in order to determine the resistance through each of the six Static Switch assemblies.Resistance from input to output through the Silicon Controlled Rectifiers should be greater than 100 k Ω. If resistance is less than 100 k Ω, the Silicon Controlled Rectifier is likely damaged and should be replaced.Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Static Switch" for information about the following tasks:
removal of the Static Switch Assembly.
replacement of the Static Switch Assembly
