At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Be sure all the hydraulic pressure is released before any fittings, hoses or components are loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted.
d. Carefully loosen the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank to release the pressure.e. Carefully loosen the plugs at the rear of the tilt cylinders. When the oil from the loosened plugs stops draining, tighten the two plugs.f. Tighten the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank.g. The pressure in the hydraulic system has now been released. 5. Disconnect three hose assemblies (3) from the steering neutralizer valve.6. Remove bolts (1) that hold steering neutralizer valve (2) to the frame of the machine. Remove the steering neutralizer valve.7. Remove the other steering neutralizer valve as in Steps 5 and 6. The following steps are for the installation of the steering neutralizer valves.8. Install the steering neutralizer valves in the reverse order of removal.9. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.10. Check the adjustment of the strikers on the steering neutralizer valves. See the topic "Neutralizer Valve" in Systems Operation Testing & Adjusting, 988F Wheel Loader Steering System, Form No. SENR5731.11. Separate the steering frame lock link. See the topic "Separate & Connect Steering Frame Lock Link" in this module.12. Start the machine, and check the operation of the steering.Disassemble & Assemble Steering Neutralizer Valves (STIC Control System)
Start By:a. remove steering neutralizer valves (STIC Control System)1. Be sure the outside of the steering neutralizer valve is thoroughly clean prior to disassembly. 2. Remove boot (1) and plug (3) from valve body (2). Remove the O-ring seal from the plug. 3. Remove spring (5) and spool (4) from valve body (2). 4. Check the condition of lip-type seal (6). If the seal is worn or damaged, remove it from the valve body, and replace it with a new part. The following steps are for the assembly of the steering neutralizer valve. 5. Using tool (A), install the lip-type seal in valve body (2). Install the seal until it makes contact with the counterbore in the valve body and with the sealing lip facing in toward the valve body. Lubricate the lip of the seal with clean hydraulic oil.6. Check the condition of O-ring seal (6). If the seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.
