Rework Procedure
Recommended procedure for Before Failure Repair. (Groups 1 & 2)
1. The vibratory motor needs to be removed. Hydraulic hoses should be capped at time of removal to prevent contamination.2. Follow the attached service manual procedure for disassembly and assembly of the vibratory motor to remove and install a new 7X5497 Cylinder Block. If the cylinder block spline area has cracked and failed causing damage to the rotating group, the motor should be replaced with a new motor. Follow the attached "Recommended Inspection For After Failure Repair."
The new 7X5497 Cylinder block will come preassembled with Items 19, 20, 21 and 22 already preassembled. It will also have a dull grey appearance due to the nitriding process it has gone through. The older cylinder block will have a bright shiny appearance.
3. Stamp the letter "N" after the date code which is found on the motor identification plate. An example of a modified motor date code would be "A-95-03-12435 N ".4. Reinstall the motor and perform the Machine Frequency Test found in Testing and Adjusting, Vibratory System. It is not intended that the shaft seal, bearing or end cap be disassembled during completion of this repair. Only the 7X5497 Cylinder Block and 7R3403 Gasket should be replaced.
Group 1 - Recommended inspection for After Failure Repair
These inspection guidelines should be followed if the 7X5497 Cylinder Block is found to be broken and pieces from the block have come loose. Components should be removed and inspected in the order listed.
1. Drain the hydraulic tank. Remove the 7X8381 Strainer and clean. Inspect the inside of the hydraulic tank and clean if contamination is found.2. Inspect the valve plate of the vibratory motor in the contact area of the cylinder block. If large scratches are present which may be felt with a fingernail, the vibratory pump and vibratory cooling valve should be removed and inspected for contamination. The closed circuit hoses should be cleaned and flushed. The case drain hose from the pump to the motor and from the motor to the hydraulic tank should be cleaned
