Typical example of the Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) fumes disposal filter.
(1) Return to the air inlet system
(2) Fumes from crankcase breather
(3) Oil drain to crankcase The Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system contains four individual coalescing filter assemblies (two on each side of the engine). The Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system requires the replacement of the fumes disposal filter. The service interval of the CCV will be affected by the following items:
Engine load
Concentration of soot
Condition of the engineThe CCV system has sufficient capacity to meet the maintenance interval schedule under normal operating conditions. Engine crankcase pressure will indicate the need for replacement if the CCV filter elements become restrictive prior to the scheduled maintenance interval.Replacing the Fumes Disposal Filter
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Note: When possible, perform the maintenance while the engine is off.

(4) Latches
(5) Base assembly
(6) Canister
Release latches (4) that secures the canister (6) to filter base assembly (5). Note: Removing canister may be difficult while the engine is operating. The canister has negative air pressure while the engine is operating. This condition creates a vacuum.
Lower the canister in order to expose the fumes disposal filter element. There may be oil in the bottom of the canister. Avoid spilling the oil.
Remove the filter element by pulling down from the filter base assembly. Dispose of the used fumes disposal filter element properly. Note: The O-ring seal located on the outside diameter of the inlet port should remain on the used fumes disposal filter element during removal.
Remove the O-ring seal located within the profile groove on the bottom of the filter base assembly.
Replace the O-ring seal located within the profile groove on the bottom of the filter base assembly.
Install the new O-ring seal on the outside diameter of the inlet port of the new fumes disposal filter element.
Install the new fumes disposal filter element into the filter base assembly.
Reinstall the canister by aligning the canister latches with the corresponding features on the filter base assembly. Secure the canister by moving the latches to the closed position.
