Test Step 1. Inspect the Electrical Connectors and the Wiring
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

(1) J1/P1 ECM connectors
(2) Emergency shutdown switch
(3) Interconnect harness connector
Thoroughly inspect connectors (1) and 3. Also, thoroughly inspect the terminal connections at the terminal strip and at the emergency stop switch (2) that are inside the display panel. Carefully inspect any other connections that are associated with the circuit for the driven equipment. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.

Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the circuit for the emergency stop switch.
Check the torque of the fasteners at the ECM connectors. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct torque values.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points from the ECM to the emergency stop switch. Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are coupled and/or inserted, and the harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion, and of pinch points.Results:
OK - The connectors and wiring appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - The connectors and/or wiring are not OK.Repair: Repair the wiring and/or the connectors. Replace parts, if necessary.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Circuit for the Emergency Shutdown Switch at the ECM
Ensure that the electrical power has been removed from the ECM.
Disconnect the J1/P1 ECM connector.
Place the emergency stop switch in the RUN position.
Use a multimeter to check for continuity between terminals P1-35 and terminal P1-52. While the emergency stop switch is in the RUN position , the circuit must be continuous.
Place the emergency stop switch in the STOP position.
Use a multimeter to check for continuity between terminals P1-35 and terminal P1-52. While the emergency stop switch is in the STOP position , the circuit must not be continuous for the proper operation of the engine.Expected Result:The results of the test agree with the conditions that are stated above.Results:
OK - The circuit is continuous with the switch in the RUN and the circuit is not continuous with the switch in the STOP position.Repair: The switch and the switch circuit appear to be OK. Confirm that the problem is in the emergency stop circuit. If the emergency stop circuit is still suspected of the problem, check the harness and the connectors for an intermittent electrical problem. Start the engine and wiggle the engine harness, the interconnect harness, and
