Removal Procedure
Start By:
Drain the cooling system. If the engine uses Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". If the engine uses Extended Life Coolant (ELC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove the water temperature regulator housing from the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Temperature Regulator Housing - Remove and Install" for further information.
Remove snap ring (1) and spacer (4) from water temperature regulator housing (2). Remove water temperature regulator (3) from the water temperature regulator housing. Installation Procedure

Ensure that the water temperature regulator housing is clean. Ensure that the seat for the water temperature regulator is free of debris.
Put water temperature regulator (3) into housing (2). Install spacer (4) and snap ring (1) into the water temperature regulator housing.
Install the water temperature regulator housing onto the heat exchanger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Temperature Regulator Housing - Remove and Install" for further information.End By:
Fill the cooling system. If the engine uses Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC), refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change". Operate the engine. Check for leakage.
